The Brazil international shared his opinion of Man Utd’s progress by comparing the club to the Premier League’s pacesetters.
Casemiro reckons Arsenal and Manchester City are still ‘on a level above’ Manchester United, but insists the Red Devils are heading in the right direction.
The former Real Madrid midfielder broke the deadlock in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle to help United to a 2-0 win, sealing his first piece of silverware with the club.
However, with an eight-point gap to Premier League leaders Arsenal, Casemiro has suggested a title challenge may be a long shot this season.
“We know that we are in a very good growth,” the 31-year-old said after the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
“We are growing, we are gaining respect in England. We know that we always need to be improving. We know there are, and we cannot hide it. Other teams are ahead of us. They are on a level above us.
“Speaking of names… City, Arsenal. They are on a level above.”
‘We have to be realistic’
“Even for the players for a long time, even for the coach, coaching staff, who have been there for a long time,” Casemiro added.
“We have to be realistic. We are on a level, on a crescent. But I would say that with our commander, with our coach, we are understanding, we are following the work philosophy, and that is the most important thing.
“Continuing to grow, I think having the humility also, of course, we have to celebrate, but having the humility to know that we have to continue growing, continue evolving because it is still the beginning of a great work, of a great staff, and, well, we know that winning titles is always important.”
United return to action on Wednesday for a fifth-round FA Cup game against West Ham at Old Trafford.
