Jamie Carragher fancies seeing Lionel Messi in the Premier League but believes Liverpool are not part of his possible destinations.

Except for a change of heart, Messi could be leaving Barcelona and heading to the Premier League.

Manchester City are mooted as likely candidates to land the Argentine should he depart the La Liga.

The talk of Messi and his future seems to be the order of the day. However, there’s more talk on which and if any club can even afford him at all.

No matter the circumstances, the 33-year-old is expected to command a handsome amount to convince Barcelona to let go of their cherished gem.

Manchester City are one of the few clubs that can shoulder that burden and there is a possibility they can pull it off.

Liverpool were never once mentioned as likely clubs for Messi to join and Jamie Carragher is not surprised at all. He explains why the prospect of seeing La Pulga at Anfield is almost impossible. Regardless, the 42-year-old will love the Barca captain in the Premier League.

Carragher said as quoted by Metro: “I hope so, I would love to see Messi in the Premier League. ‘I want to watch him, I want to analyse him. The obvious place, the only place he can really go [in England] is Manchester City.”

“With the history he’s got with the manager [Pep Guardiola] and the financial clout the club have got.”

“I don’t think Liverpool will go anywhere near that situation. Financially, number one, but also because the way Liverpool the play.”

“City are more technical and that would suit Messi a bit more. But how you get that deal across the line with the figures involved, I’m not too sure. It’s mind-boggling.”
