The Real Madrid coach can stamp his name into the record books if his side progresses past Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Carlo Ancelotti could become the first manager in Champions League history to reach the final five times on Wednesday.

The 62-year-old Italian currently shares a record of four Champions League final appearances with Marcello Lippi, Sir Alex Ferguson, and Miguel Muñoz.

He can claim sole bragging rights for the record on Wednesday if Real Madrid overcome Manchester City in their second-leg Champions League semi-final tie. To do so, they must overturn a 4-3 aggregate deficit.

What is Ancelotti’s record in the Champions League?

The Italian has recorded 98 wins, 39 draws, and 40 defeats in 177 games as a manager in the Champions League since 1997/98.

Ancelotti has coached Parma, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Napoli in the competition.

He has won the tournament three times, twice at AC Milan in 2002/03 and 2006/07 and once at Real Madrid in 2013/14. His only defeat in the final came in 2004/05, when his AC Milan side lost on penalties to Liverpool in Istanbul.

Which other records can Ancelotti break?

If Real Madrid win again in Europe, Ancelotti will become the first manager to win the Champions League/European Cup four times.

He is currently level with former Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane and Liverpool icon Bob Paisley on a record-equaling three European crowns.
