The Real Madrid boss hails Luka Modric, who is on the verge of signing a new contract with the club.

Luka Modric is spending the final months of his current contract at Real Madrid. The Ballon d’Or winner has continued his incredible performances for the Blancos this season, with a top-class display against Chelsea, once again, showcasing his crucial role in Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Ahead of his side’s upcoming La Liga clash against Sevilla, the Italian boss confirmed Modric will sign a new contract at Real Madrid.

“Modric will finish his career here at Real Madrid, this is the idea of the club and Luka. He won’t have problems to renew,” Ancelotti told reporters.

The former Milan boss went on to compare the 36-year-old with AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

He added: “I coached a football legend, [Paolo] Maldini, who won the Champions League at the age of 40.

“If I have to compare Luka Modric with a player, it would be with him. For the quality, for the seriousness, for how he understands football… they are legends.”

Modric has made 428 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 31 goals and providing 70 assists. Having spent ten years at Santiago Bernabeu, the Croatia captain looks to win his fifth Champions League and third La Liga title this season.
