After gathering all the signatures to leave four candidates, some of them are trying to delay FC Barcelona’s election process for months.

FC Barcelona was supposed to have an election process on January 24 but some of the candidates are willing to delay it one more time. The voting for a new president has already been delayed considerably due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, the voting process was supposed to take place during the month of December last year. However, the interim president (Carles Tusquets) made the decision to move the date to January 24.

Understandably, the pandemic is only getting worse around the world and Spain is no different. This led to candidate Victor Font to unite with other candidates who weren’t Joan Laporta to request for another delay. Obviously, he realized Laporta has a strong claim to the presidency after gathering 10,257 signatures from associates.

Laporta wants the voting to happen soon.

As far as Joan Laporta is concerned, the former president knows he is the strongest candidate to win the election and he wants the voting to happen soon. Changing the date one more time can only prevent Barcelona from making instrumental decisions to the club’s future.

The former president said the following through Sport: “The consequences of another delay of the election could be irreversible for Barcelona. We are wasting golden opportunities in the winter transfer window. The club needs to make decisions immediately. As of today, Barcelona doesn’t even have approved budgets to do anything.

“With this unruly state of things, the club cannot function. Enough is enough with these matters. There are no objective reasons to delay the elections. Barcelona wants to celebrate this process. This is an important moment for all the club’s supporters to move and not get the elections suspended. They can be organized with the necessary health protocols.”
