After withdrawing from the race for Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester City appear set to miss out on signing a new striker this summer.

Pep Guardiola has conceded that it’s unlikely Manchester City will do any more transfer business before Tuesday’s deadline.

The Premier League champions cast an eye on Cristiano Ronaldo upon failing to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham. But while talks took place with the Juventus forward and his representatives, City eventually pulled out.

Ronaldo has since agreed to return to Manchester United, leaving City back in square one. The Citizens may have to do without a Sergio Aguero replacement for this season. That said, Guardiola isn’t expecting any more departures either despite the uncertain futures of Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Aymeric Laporte.

“Right now, I don’t think so, but maybe it’s going to happen,” said the City manager in a press conference on Friday when asked if he expects any more incomings or departures this summer.

“Anything can happen, but my opinion is everything will finish like it has now and that’s good enough.”

Should that be the case, City will end their summer with two new signings in Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for €117.5 million and Kayky from Fluminense for €10 million.
