The Selecao legend is positive about Brazil’s chances of winning their sixth World Cup title in Qatar.

Cafu believes Brazil “are ahead of every other team” at the outset of the 2022 World Cup.

Brazil haven’t won the title since Cafu captained them to victory in 2002. The Selecao have failed to do so despite having stars such as Neymar in their squad.

But Cafu believes they now have the right balance to claim the title in Qatar.

“I think Brazil will win this year,” he told Daily Mail.

“This is the strongest group of players since 2002 and the team don’t rely too much on Neymar, like in the past. Brazil are strong in all areas: defence, midfield and attack.”

He added: “Twenty years without winning a World Cup or even without a final appearance is too much for Brazil. I believe this will end in Qatar.”

The Selecao failed to beat Argentina in the Copa America final last year. Tite’s side could face their arch-rivals before the final if both teams qualify as the group leaders.

Cafu believes Brazil are the favourites to claim the title but admits Argentina have one of the strongest teams of the tournament.

“Brazil are ahead of every other team,” Cafu said. “But I think Argentina are very strong as well. They are playing well and Lionel Messi is a genius. France have the same team that won four years ago. These are the three favourites.”
