A two-way battle between Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland to finish as the Bundesliga’s top scorer beckons for the 2021/22 season.
Robert Lewandowski scored a record 41 goals last season for a sixth Golden Boot award and has begun the 2021/22 Bundesliga campaign on a similar note.
The Pole was on target for the sixth time this season in Bayern Munich’s 4-1 win over RB Leipzig. His strike on Saturday maintained his lead in the scoring charts after four games. But Haaland, third in last season’s scoring charts, is keeping him honest. The Borussia Dortmund striker scored his second brace in 2021/22 in a 4-3 thriller against Bayer Leverkusen to end matchday four on five goals overall.

Top Bundesliga 2021-22 Assist Leaders
Compared to previous seasons, Haaland is setting up his teammates more frequently. The Norway international made his fourth assist of the season – exactly half of what he did in 2020/21 – on Saturday. Therefore, he has been involved in nine of Dortmund’s 13 goals so far.
Lewandowski, in comparison, is yet to chip in with an assist. Instead, Hoffenheim forward Andrej Kramaric has taken an early lead in the assists charts.
What about the league standings?
Four wins out of four have seen Wolfsburg move top of the Bundesliga standings. Mark van Bommel’s men cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win at Furth over the weekend to stay two points above reigning champions Bayern.
The biggest surprise is perhaps Leipzig. Under new coach Jesse Marsch, the 12th-placed Red Bulls have won just one of their opening four games.
