Ace Football presents a detailed view of the fixtures played in the 24th gameweek of the Bundesliga campaign.

Another matchday of Bundesliga action ended on Sunday as teams locked horns with their opponents during the weekend. Nine matches took place across Germany, with the league’s table seeing some major changes.

As we prepare for another exciting week of Bundesliga football, let’s review our main takeaways from Matchday 24.

Hoffenheim 2-1 Stuttgart

The gameweek started with Hoffenheim claiming their third win in a row as they continue their impressive run of recent weeks.

Die Kraichgauer are now level on points with both Leipzig and Freiburg and their performance against Stuttgart showed why we should consider them as genuine top-four contenders.

Similar to their game against Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim came back from behind with an incredible late comeback. Christoph Baumgartner scored in the 85th and 90th minute to win the game for his side at Rhein-Neckar Arena.
The fifth-placed side will now prepare to meet Koln in their next league game on Sunday.

Greuther Furth 1-1 Koln

Following a 4-1 defeat against Bayern last week, Furth managed to deny Koln of a victory on Saturday. The newly-promoted side still sit at the rock bottom of the table. However, their recent performances have revived their hopes of escaping relegation.

On the other hand, Koln showed yet another weak attacking performance. Unlike their solid backline, Koln have dealt with major goalscoring problems in recent weeks.

It will be interesting to see whether Anthony Modeste can return to end his goal drought against Hoffenheim next week.

Freiburg 3-0 Hertha Berlin

Freiburg’s performance against Hertha was what their fans needed after a few underwhelming defensive displays. The defensive duo of Leinhart and Schlotterbeck was back in its best, while Grifo showed incredible form upfront.

The Breisgau-Brasilianers seem to have recovered from their recent dip in form as they try to reclaim their top-four spot. They will now prepare to face Leipzig in a crucial match next week, which could bring them up to the fourth place.

Leverkusen 3-0 Arminia Bielefeld

Following a shock defeat against Mainz last week, Leverkusen bounced back with a great victory against the 14th-placed side.

The Moussa Diaby scored twice while Florian Writz displayed yet another brilliant performance for the Eternal Bridesmaids. Having registered 21 shots during the game, Leverkusen seem ready to take on Bayern at Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Monchengladbach 2-2 Wolfsburg

Arguably the most exciting game of the weekend saw Gladbach escape a home defeat against the Wolves. Following goals from Jonas Wind and Sebastian Bornauw, Gladbach hit back with a goal from Marcus Thuram in the 42nd minute.

They eventually managed to clinch a point when Breel Embolo scored Galdbach’s second goal of the night in the 82nd minute. It was a decent comeback after their crushing 6-0 defeat against Dortmund last week.

The Foals will take on Stuttgart in their next league game on Saturday.

Union Berlin 3-1 Mainz

Union were not favourites to win Mainz despite playing in their home stadium. However, a fantastic attacking display won the game for the Berliners.

Mainz were too careless in their attempts to come back into the game. They managed to score one of the 15 shots, but it was not enough to prevent Union from reaching the seventh place on the table.

On Saturday, Union will meet Wolfsburg as they look to close the gap with sixth-placed Hoffenheim.

Eintracht Frankfurt 0-1 Bayern Munich

Bayern managed to register their first clean sheet in five games against Frankfurt. However, the win came way harder than initially expected.

The eagles defended with great discipline and had a few chances to score in the first half. However, Bayern managed to outplay them in the second period and increased their lead on top of the table to eight points.

The Bavarians will face Leverkusen in one of the most anticipated games of the next weekend.

Bochum 0-1 RB Leipzig

Having stunned Bayern Munich and Stuttgart in their last two games, Bochum hoped to do the same against Leipzig.
They were very close to achieving their goal until Christopher Nkunku ruined their night with a late winner. It was the Frenchman’s 14th goal of the Bundesliga season as he bagged another important win for Die Rotten Bullen.

Leipzig will continue their bid to keep their third place when they meet their closest rivals Freiburg on Saturday.

Augsburg 1-1 Dortmund

Following their disappointing elimination from the Europa League by Rangers, Dortmund showed clear signs of fatigue against Augsburg.

The Bavarian side managed to hold on to their defensive integrity before scoring a late equalizer against the Black and Yellows. The two missed points increased Dortmund’s gap with Bayern to eight points ahead of their next week’s match against Mainz.
