BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton made a shocking assumption on Jose Mourinho’s exit from Tottenham earlier this week.
Jose Mourinho was stripped down from the managerial spot by Tottenham on Monday. This happened as the club is battling to qualify for the Champions League place next season and currently number seven on the table. And according to the BT Sport football expert Chris Sutton, Mourinho “lost the dressing room” because of his comments on BBC Radio 5 Live after their draw against Newcastle.
While his sacking was anticipated by some fans and pundits alike, former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole was surprised by the timing of it. But the ex-Blues man believes that there is a deeper reason for the decision made. This is because it does not make sense to sack the finest of managers and replace him with a rookie just six days before the Carabao Cup final against Man City.
What a bizarre theory.
Former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea striker Sutton also agreed upon Cole’s theory about Mourinho exit. Sutton, however, feels that the Portuguese manager was out of contention when he spoke about the difference between Tottenham and his old clubs. When questioned about the same, Mourinho’s response was quite simple and distinctive. He said: “Same coach, different players.”
The BT Sport pundit believes that those words were the end of Mourinho’s reign at the north London club. “I think he was a goner then. Because the players just are not having that, they would have been behind his back absolutely pummelling him. You can’t do that, he has lost the dressing room.”
