The Portuguese superstar might leave United before the expiration of his current deal.

Bruno Fernandes has reacted to reports linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move back to Sporting Lisbon.

The arrival of Erik ten Hag and Manchester United‘s plans to rebuild their squad have cast doubts over Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have been among the media’s speculated destinations for Ronaldo in the past couple of weeks.

However, in recent days reports around a sensational return to Sporting Lisbon have also surfaced media.

Fernandes hopes to see Ronaldo back in training when he returns for pre-season with United. But, he admits Ronaldo’s possible return will be a great gift to Sporting fans.

“From what I’ve talked to him – we’re both on vacation still, and no-one bothers friends on holiday,” he told reporters.

“I hope in four days to find him to train there. I’m not expecting more than that.

“As far as I know, there’s nothing more to it than that, but everyone takes care of their future. I do not believe that the club is willing to lose an asset like Cristiano.”

Ronaldo started his career in Sporting before rising to stardom at Old Trafford. Fernandes hopes his Portugal teammate will return to the club in the future.

“It would be a great moment for Sporting; almost everyone expects this; I’d like that to happen,” Fernandes, who also played for Sporting, added.

“He has the ambition to continue playing for many years. We will see what he will decide, I hope, when the contract with United is over, but the ambition and dream of the fans would be to see Ronaldo playing with the Sporting jersey.”
