Brighton & Hove Albion have slapped a hefty £50million price tag on in-demand defender Ben White amid Liverpool transfer speculations.

White was a transfer target for Liverpool during the summer, but the Reds opted against pursuing their interest due to a similar asking price.

Circumstances have since changed, as Jurgen Klopp now faces the prospect of finishing the season without his defensive cornerstone Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch defender picked up a potentially season-ending injury during a 2-2 draw with Everton back last weekend.

A severe knee fracture suffered as a consequence of Jordan Pickford’s over-zealous tackle will see Van Dijk undergo surgery and possibly remain on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

As a result, Klopp is currently on the lookout for a new defensive option to replace one of the best Premier League centre-backs.

According to The Sun, the name of Ben White is back in fashion. But, the same source also states Liverpool would prefer someone with a bit more experience in top-flight football.

The 23-year-old has amassed only five Premier League appearances so far and has recently committed to a five-year contract at the Amex Stadium.

Leeds United also tried to snap up White in the summer but found all of their three attempts rebuffed by Brighton.

The versatile defender was nothing short of outstanding during Leeds’ promotion-winning Championship campaign.

Despite his young age, he played every single minute of second-tier football back in 2019/20.
