Fati has joined the Seagulls after completing a loan switch from Barcelona.
Ansu Fati will not make his Brighton debut against Newcastle, according to manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Fati’s struggle for playing time at Barcelona convinced him to look for a new club in the summer transfer window. Once Barcelona’s most promising academy star, Fati is now looking to rediscover his spark at the Amex Stadium.
“If you work with these talents, you have more responsibility because it’s football heritage,” De Zerbi said on Friday.
“We can’t make mistakes with this player because football needs his talent. You have to manage it in a different way.”
Fati, who has joined Brighton on a one-year loan deal, will wear the No.31 jersey at the club. However, he has to wait until after the international break to make his debut at the English club.
Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, said of Fati’s arrival: “We are delighted to bring Ansu to the club.
“He is one of the most highly-rated young players in the world and arrives with an impressive amount of experience both domestically and in European competition, despite his age.”
Last season, Fati made a total of 36 La Liga appearances for Barca as they won the domestic trophy. The Spanish forward is expected to become a key player in Brighton’s attacking line as they look to build on their impressive results from the previous campaign.
