Chelsea stayed winless in the Premier League for the third consecutive match.

Brighton defeated Chelsea 4-1 in their Premier League game on Saturday. Graham Potter’s former side show no mercy against their woeful opponents.

A Seagulls revenge?

Brighton hadn’t been able to win a game since Potter’s departure last month.

But the Seagulls showed they came to beat Chelsea right from the start. An early striker from Leandro Trossard put Brighton ahead before Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s own goal doubled their lead nine minutes later.

Chelsea struggled to find their feet in the game while the hosts kept attacking them from both flanks. Another own goal then stunned Chelsea when Trevoh Chalobah converted Moisés Caicedo’s low cross.

Chelsea looked much better at the beginning of the second period, making it 3-1 through Kai Havertz in the 48th minute.

However, they struggled to convert their chances later on, with Robert Sanchez making a number of impressive saves.

Pascal Gross then put the icing on the cake for Brighton by scoring their fourth goal of the night in extra time. Edouard Mendy made two saves against Julio Enciso before Gross converted the second rebound.

Chelsea’s defeat provides a chance for Manchester United to leapfrog them from the Premier League’s fifth spot by beating West Ham on Sunday.

The Blues, on the other hand, must prepare to take on Dinamo Zagreb in their next Champions League game on Wednesday.
