Liverpool’s dreams of defending the FA Cup title end with another disappointing display at Falmer Stadium.

Brighton defeated Liverpool 2-1 in their FA Cup game on Sunday. The hosts pulled off a brilliant comeback to reach the competition’s fifth round.

A failed revenge mission!

Liverpool lost 3-0 against Brighton in the Premier League last week, a game described by Jurgen Klopp as the “worst match” of his entire career.

Similar to that game, Brighton started off as the better side, with Evan Ferguson missing a golden chance in the 15th minute. Liverpool gradually took control of the possession, making a host of serious chances in Brighton’s box.

Their efforts finally paid off when Harvey Elliot made put them ahead in the 30th minute. Following a brilliant run and assist by Mohamed Salah, the youngster converted the one-on-one to make it 1-0 for the Reds.

Brighton, however, were quick in their response. Only nine minutes later, the Seagulls’ relentless attacks resulted in Lewis Dunk’s equalizer.

Liverpool restarted their attacks as soon as the second period started. But Brighton kept them at pay with high-pressing and threatening counter-attacks.

An exciting second half saw both sides creating several chances, but it was Brighton who finally found the winner in the 92nd minute.

A cross from Pervis Estupinan found Kaoru Mitoma inside the box. The Japan international then made a fantastic touch to create space for his powerful shot past Alisson Becker.

The late goal was enough to send Brighton to the FA Cup’s next round as Liverpool crashed out of another competition.

Next up, the Reds meet Wolves in the Premier League, where they hope to claim their first victory in four matches.
