Let’s take a look at the Premier League Player Ratings from the showdown between Brighton and Liverpool at the Amex.
A controversial last-gasp penalty from Pascal Gross ensured a share of the spoils between Brighton and Liverpool in the Premier League.
It didn’t take long for a golden opportunity to present itself in the first-half when Neco Williams fouled Aaron Connolly in the box to earn Brighton a penalty. But Neal Maupay’s effort went wide to spare Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s injury-plagued defensive, especially the center-back pairing of Williams and Fabinho, struggled against the pacey Connolly. Then, to add to their woes, VAR ruled out a Mohamed Salah goal.
But Diogo Jota, who started in place of Sadio Mane, continued his fine form to put Liverpool ahead on the hour-mark. He received Salah’s pass and then fired the ball into the bottom left-hand corner after passing two defenders. It was his ninth goal for the club since joining from Wolves in September.
9th goal of the season.

Mane later headed home a second goal for Liverpool in the second half to seemingly ensure all three points. A VAR review, however, ruled out the substitute’s goal for offside.
Then, much to Klopp’s bemusement, referee Stuart Attwell awarded Brighton an injury-time penalty when Andy Robertson kicked Danny Welbeck’s boot. And Gross made no mistake to slot the ball into the middle to ensure a valuable point.
The Seagulls have now moved six points clear of the relegation zone in 16th for the time being. Liverpool, on the other hand, have temporarily moved top of the Premier League table until Tottenham and Chelsea have faced each other on Sunday at least.
