Let’s take a look at the player ratings from the Premier League Boxing Day derby between Brentford and Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Tottenham recovered from a two-goal deficit to salvage a 2-2 Premier League draw against London rivals Brentford on Boxing Day.
Spurs fight back to win a point
Just eight days on from the World Cup final, it was back to business in England. The Premier League returned, with the first game being a London derby between Brentford and Tottenham.
Spurs arrived at the Gtech Community Stadium as match favorites, but were left trailing after just 15 minutes. Vitaly Janely gobbled up a rebound from Fraser Forster’s save from Matias Jensen’s shot to put Brentford 1-0 up. The Bees stayed in front for the rest of the first half. They defended the edge of their box superbly to deny Spurs a way back into the game.
The home side’s efforts paid off in the second half when Ivan Toney doubled their lead. It was the striker’s 11th league goal of the season and left Brentford on course for a first win over Tottenham since 1948 – 74 years ago.
However, in the final half hour of normal time, Spurs bounced back with two goals of their own. Harry Kane got the ball rolling for Antonio Conte’s side by heading in a 65th-minute goal. Six minutes later, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg curled in an equalizer to split the points between the two London clubs.
How does the Premier League table look now?
At the time of writing, Tottenham remain fourth in the Premier League table. They will next play Aston Villa at home on New Year’s Day, while Brentford who travel to West Ham on Friday, are ninth.
