Third-tier Alcoyano shocked Spanish football fans after knocking out Real Madrid with 10 men on the pitch.
Real Madrid was due for a stroll around the park as they took on Alcoyano, a team currently playing at the Spanish third division. The match started out wonderfully for the Merengues as outcast Eder Militao scored a great header. The Brazilian center-back was also assisted by his fellow countryman Marcelo.
However, Real Madrid may be accused of being overly confident as they blew away 23 goal attempts this Wednesday night. Alcoyano, on the other hand, took full advantage of their scarce goal opportunities and tied the game at the 80th-minute mark.
At the start of a surprising extra-time, Zidane decided to bring out the big guns. In the first ten minutes, Asensio, Hazard, and Kroos entered the pitch. However, that was far from being enough. Five minutes after being left with 10 men on the field, Alcoyano surprised Real Madrid with a quick counter-attack that was finished off by the team’s new hero Casanova.
Alcoyano will now move on to the round of 32 at Copa del Rey after knocking out Cup favorites Real Madrid in a dramatic fashion. Watch below the celebrations as the small club defeated one of Spain’s biggest teams.
