In a shocking revelation, Manchester City just announced the exit of a club legend who will bid farewell after the current season is over.
Manchester City has many legendary players right now, but they will bid farewell to their most important in history. After he completes a full decade as a Citizen, Sergio Aguero is set to leave his beloved club as the all-time top scorer and the most important player in the club’s history. ‘Kun’ was the one who scored that legendary goal against Queens Park Rangers that gave them their first of many Premier League titles.
He is also considered one of the best footballers of the Premier League era, period. Also, there’s a good argument that places him right up there next to Thierry Henry and Eric Cantona as the best foreign player in the tournament’s history. Manchester City decided to bid him a well-deserved farewell and allow him to leave the club with all the honors. You can expect a statue in his honor as soon as he leaves.
City’s chairman thanks Aguero for his service.
Alongside the official announcement on their website, Manchester City also picked up the following statement from Khaldoon Al Mubarak: “Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football. This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches.
“There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead. In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent and David. And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season.”
