An unexpected turn of events could prevent a major Serie A Derby from being played on Sunday evening due to COVID-19.

We have some terrible news regarding the only Serie A Derby happening this weekend. It could get cancelled completely due to health concerns. We are obviously talking about this Sunday’s Napoli vs Juventus match that was set to take place at Allianz Arena.

The major issue presented itself after new positive COVID-19 cases were revealed on Saturday by the Juve camp. A public announcement was made earlier on Saturday and everything spiraled out of control from that moment forward.

“Juventus Football Club announces that, during the checks provided for by the protocol in force, two staff members tested positive for Covid 19,” read a Juventus statement.

“These are neither players nor members of the technical or medical staff, however, in compliance with the regulations and the protocol, the whole extended team, as of this moment, has gone into fiduciary isolation.

“This procedure will allow all members who tested negative to the controls to carry out regular training and match activities. But will not be allowed contact with outside the group. The club is in constant contact with the competent health authorities.”

Napoli gets blocked from traveling to Turin.

Things got increasingly more terrible as the Napoli camp was forbidden to travel to Turin for the match. They reported two cases of players who tested positive. As we all know, there were several positive cases amongst the Genoa football club right after their match vs Napoli.

This weekend, Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas were announced as positives by the club from the South. This pushed the Italian authorities to block the club from traveling by plane. Although the match hasn’t officially been postponed yet.

The Serie A rulebook clearly states that any club that misses a match will lose by forfeit with a 3-0 result. However, this is completely out of Napoli’s hands and they aren’t responsible for what the Italian authorities demand. We will keep you informed on any development regarding one of the biggest games of the week.
