Through an announcement on their official website, Juventus revealed one of the first-team defenders just tested positive for Covid-19.

Covid-19 has struck Juventus once again after hitting one of their first-team defenders on Friday afternoon. After today’s round of PCR tests, Matthijs de Ligt came back with a positive result and will have to isolate for 15 days. This comes right before the club’s match against Sassuolo in Serie A on Sunday.

Juventus confirmed the diagnosis through their official website in a short publication: “Juventus Football Club announces that during the checks provided for by the protocol in force. Matthijs De Ligt has emerged positive with Covid 19. The player has already been placed in solitary confinement.”

As soon as they realized he was infected, the club instructed the player to self-quarantine but they didn’t reveal if he is displaying any symptoms.

How many matches will De Ligt miss?

According to the Serie A and the Italian Government protocols. Matthijs de Ligt has to remain in isolation for the next 10 days if he remains asymptomatic. After this period of time, he will undergo a new PCR test to determine if the virus has vacated his body. All of this wouldn’t be effective if the player displays any symptoms over the established period.

The Dutch defender is only the latest in a long list of Juventus players who became infected with the virus. Other stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Weston McKennie, and more footballers already went through this process. We all wish a speedy recovery to Matthijs de Ligt.
