A 4-1 defeat against South Korea ended Galal’s short spell with the Pharaohs.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have announced their decision to part ways with national team manager Ehab Galal.
The 54-year-old manager came under fire for his side’s underwhelming results in June.
Following a narrow victory over Guinea in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Pharaohs suffered a shocking defeat against Ethiopia.
Egypt played a friendly match against South Korea, trying to ease the pressure after the Ethiopia defeat. However, a 4-1 loss against the Eastern Asian giants ended Galal’s career at the Egyptian national team.
“I would like to thank coach Ehab Galal, a very respectful man, who has worked under some tough circumstances,” EFA board member Hazem Emam said.
“I want to apologise to him, but sometimes the pressure is too much and we saw it would be better for everyone to change.”
Despite Egypt’s poor run of results, Galal’s sacking comes as a surprise, given that he didn’t have some of his best players, including Mohamed Salah, at his disposal for these games.
The Egyptian outlets have speculated about EFA’s efforts to re-sign former manager Carlos Queiroz. However, Emam says it’s still too early to drop any names.
He added: “I have a lot of respect for Queiroz and he did a very good job in a very short period.
“I think that now everybody appreciates what he has done. We are in talks with several foreign coaches, but I can’t reveal their names know.
“I received a lot of resumes and we have open channels with a number of them. As soon as we reach an agreement it will be announced.”
