After a humiliating defeat against Ecuador, Colombia head coach Carlos Queiroz made a last-minute decision for the national team.

Colombia suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Ecuador on Tuesday night. Carlos Queiroz’s side saw a ferocious and merciless Ecuador team take them down by 6-1 in the World Cup qualifiers. This, in turn, raised an alert for the officials of the Colombian Football Federation to contemplate a decision regarding the Portuguese coach’s future.

After the miserable evening, Ramos Jesurun, the president of FCF conducted a meeting with Queiroz over his departure. The 67-year-old tactician has been in charge of the Colombian national team for a year and nine months. Moreover, he took Los Cafeteros through 18 games, winning 9, drawing 5, and losing 4. Also, Queiroz’s agreement with the federation was until 2022.

According to reports from Marca, Queiroz agreed to leave the national side. However, this will come with a prize of €2 million of the clause which has to be paid to the Portuguese manager. Though, there will be intense financial pressure on the federation as it is going through an economic crisis along with the pandemic situation.

In addition, according to ESPN, there is a possibility that Mikel Angel Russo might replace Queiroz to take over the team. The Argentine coach is aware of Colombian football and is the potential candidate for the job.

Meanwhile, James Rodriguez, Jefferson Lerma, and Davinson Sanchez reportedly were accused of a violent event in the changing room. A wild incident saw one player grabbed by the throat, per La Luciernaga, following the 3-0 loss to Uruguay earlier. Rumors said that the changing room event occurred due to discontent between players because of Queiroz.

Although, the Everton star reached out to the public on November 19 through a Twitter post. He mentioned that all the claims are false and that the incident did not occur. It is believed that James was unhappy for losing his captaincy to former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.
