Atletico midfielder Thomas Partey will undergo a medical in Madrid this evening ahead of completing a dramatic deadline-day move to Arsenal.
In what could be arguably the biggest move of deadline-day today, Thomas Partey is set to join Arsenal from Atletico Madrid.
Despite having months to complete a deal for the Ghanaian, Arsenal left it late for their target and they will finally get their man.
Partey has been the Gunners’ top target for all of the summer and it looked like the North London side will miss out on him. In a late dramatic swoop, the midfielder is on his way to London to complete the finishing touches for his transfer.
The player reportedly had a medical in Spain and , according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, is currently on a flight to London.
As Partey has a release clause, Arsenal did not have to deal with Atletico Madrid. All they had to do was go to La Liga, plop down the cash and then they could talk to the player to sort out personal terms.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue and we could now see a big signing from the Gunners in the next few hours.
Arsenal already signed Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian, and so far this summer but none will be as massive as incoming Partey.
Atletico Madrid already have Lucas Torreira on his way from Arsenal as well on a season-long loan move. The Uruguayan is expected to fill in for the departure of Partey.
So in retrospect, it is a deal that makes sense for both clubs but the Gunners are no doubt the clear winners.
