The doctor of the Brazil national team has given an update on Neymar’s recovery from injury ahead of the Copa America.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar is ‘satisfied’ with Neymar’s progress in his recovery.

The 31-year-old attacker is out with a serious knee injury for an undefined period of time. On November 2, surgery was performed on his left knee to repair damage to the anterior cruciate ligaments and meniscus.

“Neymar has been recovering very well,” Lasmar said at a press conference on Monday.

“Yesterday [Sunday] I was with the player for a new post-operative assessment. He is recovering very well, of course, still in the initial phase.

“It is a complex injury, he ruptured a ligament and needs to be off his feet for a while. Due to the associated injuries, he will go through a lengthy rehabilitation process, he is aware of that. But he has been responding very well, we are satisfied.”

Neymar sustained his injury in Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in October.

The Al Hilal star has suffered multiple injury setbacks in recent seasons in his right ankle and foot. These caused him to miss key events, including Brazil’s run to Copa America glory in 2019.

Brazil will be back in action on Thursday away to Colombia in another 2026 World Cup qualifier.
