The Selecao crashed out of the World Cup after an unexpected defeat against Croatia.
Neymar and Thiago Silva have both admitted they might end their international careers after Brazil’s World Cup exit.
The Selecao were the clear favourites to reach the semi-finals when they took on Croatia on Saturday.
Neymar scored an extra-time goal to put his side on the verge of qualifying to the next round. But then came a late equalizer from Croatia, which was followed by Brazil’s defeat in the penalties.
Neymar took to social media to reveal he’s considering his international future after the defeat.
“I want to take time to think about the national team and think about what I want for myself,” he said.
“I am not closing the door on the national team, but I am not saying 100 percent either that I will come back.
“I feel really bad at this moment. It is hard to take in everything that has gone on.
“It seems like a nightmare. I just can’t believe what has happened.
“I will now have to take comfort from my family – but this defeat will hurt for a long time.”
Thiago Silva has also suggested he might retire from international football before the next edition of the World Cup.
“It is difficult. I have been through some disappointments in my life and when we lose something important that we have as an objective, it hurts quite a lot,” Silva said post-match.
“But we have to try to lift our heads and carry on. There is no other alternative. Sadly, as a player I am not going to get to lift this trophy. Who knows if in future I will get the chance in another role.”
