The Brazil international will most likely stay out of action in Selecao’s remaining group-stage games.

Marquinhos reveals Neymar is “working hard” to regain full fitness after suffering an injury in Brazil’s World Cup opener.

The Selecao started the tournament with an impressive win over Serbia on Thursday. But the game saw Neymar limp off the pitch with an ankle injury.

The Paris Saint-Germain star will have a chance to play again in Qatar if Brazil qualify for the knock-out stage. But Marquinhos reveals he was gutted after the injury.

“We took some time to digest the situation,” Marquinhos said.

“Right after the game, he was sad. I think that’s normal, because he dreamt so much about the World Cup and now he’s suffered an injury. As a player, we all understand what he’s going through.

“Today, after the tests, the training, the treatment, he’s going through physio 24 hours a day, working very hard. It shows how much he wants to be fit and ready.

“We don’t know how long it will take. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will be fit physically and emotionally very soon.”

Brazil will take on Switzerland in their second group-stage match on Monday before locking horns with Cameroon four days later.
