The Bundesliga champions slip up at the start of their title defense as they walk away from Borussia-Park with just a point in the bag.
Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Monchengladbach in their opening match of the 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign.
All the goalscoring action came in the first half, with Gladback breaking the deadlock at the 10-minute mark and Bayern replying three minutes before the break.
The visitors only had themselves to blame for conceding first. Alassane Plea picked up a pass from Lars Stindl, who had collected the ball after Alphonso Davies had lost it near the box, and rushed towards Manuel Neuer before slotting his shot past the goalkeeper.
It was none other than Robert Lewandowski who saved the blushes for new coach Julian Nagelsmann. The prolific Pole blasted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal after Joshua Kimmich’s delivery from the corner.
Bayern Munich will be determined to get back to their usual selves and get a win in the second fixture of the new season as up next for them is the DFL-Supercup final against rivals Borussia Dortmund.
