Dortmund defeated the Magpies again to boost their qualification chances for the knockout stage.
Borussia Dortmund defeated Newcastle 2-0 in their Champions League game on Tuesday. An impressive attacking display from the Black and Yellows ensured their crucial victory over the Magpies.
What happened?
Dortmund found a brilliant start to the game as they put pressure on Newcastle’s backline early on. Nick Pope made two saves to prevent Karim Adeyemi and Nicolas Fullkrug from scoring the opener in the first 15 minutes.
However, Fullkrug finally managed to put the hosts ahead in the 26th minute, converting a cut-back from Marcel Sabitzer. Newcastle made a few attempts to get back into the game before the break but couldn’t convert their chances.
The trend continued throughout the second period, with Joelinton missing a golden chance to score the equalizer in the 56th minute.
Dortmund then secured their victory with a lightning counter-attack as Julian Brandt defeated Pope in a one-on-one situation with a precise low shot.
The Bundesliga giants made a strong comeback from their Klassiker defeat against Bayern as they reached the second spot on the Group F table with seven points.
