Bayern Munich hammered in the final nail as Lionel Messi seems to have made up his mind about leaving Barcelona in search of pastures new.
Barcelona and Lionel Messi go hand in hand. Think of one and the other pops in your mind. But not for long.
The club’s mismanagement has taken its toll on La Pulga. Messi was in open discontent with Barcelona and had a public spat with Eric Abidal.
Abidal is not at Camp Nou anymore but the situation has deteriorated. Even before Barcelona’s thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich, there were strong speculation about Messi leaving for Inter Milan.
Their Champions League defeat seems to have expedited that. While Josep Maria Bartomeu has reassured the Argentine attack will stay, it cannot be said with authority.
New manager, Ronald Koeman, does not know about the 33-year-old’s future but wants him in his ranks.
Barcelona director Javier Bordas has added fuel to fire. Bordas was non-committal about Messi’s future at Camp Nou but stated they will do everything to keep him in Catalonia.
“I hope [Messi] does not want to go,” Marca quoted Bordas.
“He is the best in the world.
“If he wants to leave, we will try to convince himself not to leave, but surely it is not necessary.”
