In what would come as a blow for Arsenal, Brazillian defender David Luiz could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

David Luiz is set to be out of action for around four weeks, reports confirm.

The Gunners confirmed that the Brazilian underwent a successful knee surgery on Sunday.

However, there was no detail as to when his exact return would be.

As per Daily Mail, Luiz is expected to miss out for about a month.

The report also adds that the 33-year-old is still expected to play a part for the Gunners before the end of the current campaign.

The news will come as a boost for Mikel Arteta, with the season drawing to a close.

Arsenal might have little to play for in the Premier League but remain genuine contenders in the Europa League. The Gunners will take on Slavia Prague in their quarter-final first-leg on Thursday.

If they progress, the possibility of having Luiz available for the final lap of Europa League matches will come as a welcome boost for the Gunners.

The Brazilian has started all of Arsenal’s last four matches in the Europa League, with the Gunners hoping to somehow end their campaign on a high.
