The struggling Blues have appointed a replacement for Wayne Rooney after sacking their manager last week.
Birmingham City have appointed Tony Mowbray as their new manager, replacing Wayne Rooney.
On January 2, Rooney was dismissed after a short 15-game spell in charge, which yielded two victories, four draws, and nine defeats. Birmingham have now turned to Mowbray to improve their fortunes.
The 60-year-old is an experienced operator and recently ended a 15-month tenure at Sunderland.
“Tony is a widely respected figure in the game and brings a wealth of Championship experience. He knows what it takes to be successful at this level,” the club’s chief executive Garry Cook said in a statement.
“Tony has rightfully earned a reputation as a manager who delivers results, likes to play attractive football, and gives young players a chance.
“He is the right leader at the right time for our club and I know that our supporters will be right behind him and the team.”
Mowbray, who formerly played as a defender in his youth, began his coaching career in 2000. The Englishman has taken charge of eight clubs. These include Celtic, Middlesbrough, and Coventry City.
He previously led Blackburn to promotion to the Championship in 2017/18 and West Brom to the Premier League in 2007/08.
His first Birmingham game will be at home against Swansea on Saturday.
