Despite the 1-0 scoreline, Manchester City dominated last week’s first leg. Pep Guardiola’s men had 71% possession and 15 shots, but could only get two of their shots on target. Kevin De Bruyne’s 70th-minute goal proved the difference in England.
Nonetheless, City have bagged 10 wins in 12 away games (D2) across all competitions. Under 2.5 goals has returned a profit in six of their last nine matches. They’ve kept six clean sheets in their previous seven trips, and kept their opponents from scoring in the last three Champions League outings.
As for Atletico, it’s a do-or-die tie. The Spanish champions are a strong defensive unit. Under 1.5 goals has paid out in four of their last five Champions League matches. They’ve also only conceded over two goals in three of their 43 games across all competitions throughout the 2021/22 campaign.
At some point, though, Diego Simeone’s side will have to drop the defensive tactics and go all-out. But we feel City’s defense is up to the challenge of keeping the scoreline down in the second leg.
