Last week, Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 win at Anfield. The Reds racked up 74% possession and 19 shots. Villarreal, in contrast, failed to register a single shot on target.
It took until the second half, however, for the deadlock to break. Pervis Estupinan’s own goal put Liverpool in front, before Sadio Mane doubled their lead. The result leaves Jurgen Klopp’s side on the brink of a third Champions League final appearance in five seasons.
Villarreal normally keep things tight at home, but that won’t do this time. They have to go out and attack. The Spaniards need two unanswered goals, but that’s easier said than done. They’ve kept just one clean sheet and seen BTTS: Yes in four of their last five games across all competitions.
The return of striker Gerard Moreno, though, could hand Unai Emery’s side a timely boost in the attack.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have scored two or more goals in four of their last five matches and in 10 of their last 11 Champions League outings. They’ve also seen BTTS: Yes in five of their previous six Champions League trips.
The Reds’ frontline is oozing with quality. We think it will be a big ask for Villarreal to shut them out tonight.
