Despite a 10-man disadvantage, Roma defeated Vitesse 1-0 in last week’s first-leg in the Netherlands. The Giallorossi now aim to finish the job in tonight’s return leg at home. In doing so, they’ll seal a spot in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals, keeping hopes of silverware alive for this season.
Given their excellent home and defensive records, it’s unlikely the second leg will end any other way.
In 20 games under Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma have lost thrice (W12 D5). Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan are the only clubs to beat the Italian side on their own turf across all competitions. A six-match unbeaten run (W3 D3), meanwhile, has lifted them into the Serie A top-six.
Interestedly, Roma have won three of their last four games by a 1-0 scoreline – including last week’s first leg against Vitesse – and appear to have improved at the back. They’ve only conceded once in this run of matches, which could spell trouble for Vitesse.
Thomas Letsch’s men have struggled on the road recently. Not only have they lost three of their five away games (D2) in all competitions, but they scored just twice.
