The former Egypt international hopes Salah will soon lift his first international trophy with the Pharaohs.

Egypt’s defeat against Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final saw Mohamed Salah fail in his second attempt to win the continental trophy.

Barely a month later, another penalty defeat against the Lions of Teranga prevented Egypt from reaching the Qatar World Cup. Under the constant fire of lasers, Salah missed a crucial penalty in the crunch qualifier.

However, ex-Egypt star Wael Gomaa believes the recent setbacks are not enough to change Salah’s place in the Pharaohs’ history.

“I hope he wins a major trophy with the Egyptian national team,” Gomaa said (via KingFut).

“Salah is the best player in Egyptian football history. He’s a legend and he added a lot to the national team.

“Despite being one of the best players in the world, he always shows commitment to the team and respect to everyone.”

Asked about Mohamed Elneny’s refusal to take penalties for Egypt, Gomaa responded: “It’s okay for players not to take penalty kicks, some of the best players are not good with penalties.

“It’s a huge responsibility and saying no is totally fine.”

Salah is preparing to play for Liverpool in one of their most crucial games of the season on Sunday. Let’s see if the Egyptian star can score against Manchester City when the two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium.
