According to a report, Karim Benzema has taken a decision on his future at Real Madrid, after weeks of transfer speculation.

Real Madrid and Karim Benzema are almost set to announce a contract extension for the French striker, one which will keep him in the club at least until the summer of 2023, according to reports.

The Frenchman’s current deal expires next summer but Madrid want to keep him around for an extra season.

It comes days after Benzema himself welcomed the idea of extending his stay at the club. He recently said: “I go day by day”

“I enjoy every training session, every game.”

“I have a contract until 2022 but my door is open if the president wants to renew me. This is the best club in the world.”

Marca now report that Benzema will sign an extension that would keep him at the club until 2023 at the very least.

Benzema’s importance within Real Madrid’s attacking system will likely decrease in the upcoming seasons if Los Blancos manage to sign star attackers like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. However, his experience, his leadership and even his creativity as a forward still make him a valuable asset to have on the roster.

As of now, Benzema is the undisputed leader of the offensive line, so making sure he stays at the club for two more seasons makes total sense.

The Frenchman has bagged an impressive 25 goals from 36 total games this season, as he continues to spearhead Real Madrid’s quest in La Liga and the Champions League.
