The 35-year-old bagged a first-half brace in Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Elche to become the club’s second-highest LaLiga goalscorer.

Karim Benzema has overtaken Raul as the second-highest goalscorer in Real Madrid’s LaLiga history.

The Real Madrid captain extended his LaLiga tally to 229 goals in 428 games by scoring two first-half penalties in Wednesday’s 4-0 victory over Elche.

Los Blancos icon Raul, who now coaches the Castilla team, took 550 matches – 122 more games than Benzema – to reach his 228-goal mark.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the top-scorer LaLiga goalscorer in Real Madrid’s history. The Portuguese scored 311 goals in just 292 league games, meaning Benzema is still 82 goals shy of his former teammate.

Marco Asensio and Luka Modric were also on target on Wednesday to seal a comfortable 4-0 win against Elche.

The result moved Carlo Ancelotti’s side back to within eight points of league leaders Barcelona. They return to action on Saturday away to Osasuna.
