Ahead of his long-awaited Les Bleus comeback, Karim Benzema has opened up on his relationship with Olivier Giroud.

Karim Benzema has no concerns over reuniting with Olivier Giroud ahead of his return for France.

The Real Madrid striker insists he and Giroud have already put their differences aside after he infamously described his teammate as a ‘go-kart’ during his exile from the national team.

“You can’t confuse an F1 car with a go-kart and I’m being kind,” Benzema said in a social media Q&A last year.

The pair will now reunite for the first time in six years after France coach Didier Deschamps recalled Benzema in his 26-man squad for this summer’s European Championship.

How the two strikers will work together will no doubt grab attention, given their frosty relationship in the past.

But Benzema isn’t worried and revealed they are on good terms after his Real Madrid side drew 1-1 with Giroud’s Chelsea in the first leg of a Champions League semi-final tie on April 29.

“Of course. Olivier, I saw him during the Chelsea match,” Benzema told L’Equipe. ”We spoke, it was relaxed. He congratulated me on my goal.

“It was good vibes, it was cool. I have already played with him, it will be the same as before.”

Giroud later helped Chelsea bag a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the second leg a week later to seal a spot in the final with a 3-1 aggregate triumph.

The striker is currently preparing for the Blues’ Champions League final against Manchester City on Saturday.
