Karim Benzema has expressed his admiration for Kylian Mbappe and has “no doubts” that they can form an effective partnership on the pitch.

Didier Deschamps recently announced his 26-man squad for this summer’s European tournament. Benzema’s inclusion came as a surprise considering he had been banished from the national team by the boss in the wake of his alleged involvement in a sex tape scandal.

The Real Madrid striker, who did not participate in the 2018 World Cup and 2016 Euro, is now expected to start in France’s opening Euro 2020 group stage match against Germany on June 15.

The French national team is filled up to the brim with talent, and Benzema is particularly looking forward to pairing up with Mbappe, who has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

“It’s clear I’ve had a lot of feedback,” the 33-year-old told Onze Mondial. “It can be only easy [to play with Mbappe].

“It’s true that he’s a young player, but very, very talented. I like his movements, how he plays football. Now it’s up to us to get along well on the pitch, but anyway, I have no doubts about that.

“Still, we should not focus on the Mbappe-Benzema duo. There are many very talented players in this team: [Antoine] Griezmann, [Olivier] Giroud, [Paul] Pogba, [Ousmane] Dembele, [Kingsley] Coman, [Wissam] Ben Yedder.

“The danger can come from anywhere and that is so much better for France.”
