Harry Maguire was paraded as a hero in English media after getting in a brawl with police officials in Cyprus while on holiday.
Manchester United were knocked out of three semi-finals of cup competitions. Harry Maguire was supposed to be their talisman but was found wanting on numerous occasions.
The England defender went on vacations after United’s recent ousting from Europa League. Maguire did not get the relaxation he sought, getting in a brawl with police officials.
The outpour from English media was all praises for his actions in another country. Darren Bent could not understand the reaction and compared it to when Raheem Sterling returned home after the 2016 Euros.
Sterling had bought a house for his mother and got lambasted in the media for spending lavishly.
“You look at the two headlines and it’s disgusting,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“Raheem came home from the Euros and bought his mum a house, but the way it was reported, you would have thought Raheem had done the worst thing in the world.”
“All he’s done is bought him mum a house, which is what a lot of people would do if they were in a privileged position.”
“It should be a positive thing, but the headline was absolutely disgusting about how he’s let his country down at the Euros and he’s a disgrace.”
