Following his court retrial, Benjamin Mendy is now set to resume his career after almost two years away from the game.

Benjamin Mendy has signed a two-season contract with Ligue 1 team FC Lorient.

The announcement came after Mendy’s name was cleared of sexual assault charges. His last hearing took place on Friday at Chester Crown Court. The jury found him not guilty of one count of raping a woman and the attempted rape of another woman. He was also found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in January.

Now Mendy, who turned 29 on Monday, will resume his career back in his native France. He has signed a deal until June 2025 with Lorient.

The left-back will don the No.5 jersey at the Stade du Moustoir for next season. He has already passed his medical and is expected to begin training later on Wednesday.

Mendy returns to France as a free agent after his contract with Manchester City expired last month. The Frenchman made 75 appearances at the Etihad following his arrival in 2017. He last played for the club in August 2021 before allegations were made against him. He has also played for Le Havre, Marseille, and AS Monaco in his career.
