The Portuguese giants have an agreement with Liverpool in place to part ways with their prized striker.

Benfica have confirmed a transfer agreement with Liverpool for forward Darwin Nunez.

As previously reported on Sunday, Liverpool have agreed on a club-record deal worth up to €100 million to sign Nunez. The Premier League club will pay Benfica an initial fee of €75 million, plus a potential €25 million in add-ons.

“Benfica informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool for the sale of all rights to the player Darwin Nunez, for the amount of €75m,” read a statement from Benfica.

“The agreement provides for the payment of a variable remuneration, so the amount of the sale could reach €100m.

“It is further informed that the aforementioned agreement is dependent on the signing of the player’s contract with Liverpool FC.”

Nunez, who was also of interest to Manchester United, will reportedly sign a six-year contract at Anfield until June 2028. He plans to take a medical on Monday.

The Uruguay international’s arrival could pave the way for Sadio Mane’s departure. Liverpool have already turned down two offers from Bayern Munich for the Senegalese attacker.
