Jude Bellingham is adamant he is using the pressure of his big-money move to Borrusia Dortmund to help him insisting it’s “nice.”
Jude Bellingham turned 17 a little over a month ago.
He has just one season of second-tier English football under his belt. Yet the clamor for his signature was intense.
Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund went toe to toe to acquire the player from Birmingham City. The German side came out on top and paid a rumored 30 million Euros for the teenager.
It has also been reported they have given him a salary of around 3 million Euros a year too. This was said to be a stumbling block for United’s money men.
It is often said that players are affected and hampered by big money moves, and although Bellingham’s price tag is a pittance compared to the money thrown around in football today, it is a lot for such a largely speculative talent.
In an interview reported by Goal when he was asked about the price tag, Bellingham insisted that this kind of pressure is something he likes and even helps him to improve, adapt, and succeed.
He said:
“No, not really. It’s almost a nice thing to have, BVB putting that much faith in me to deliver,” he explained to reporters.
“But, for me, the pressure I put on myself is more than the pressure of any price tag or [expectation from any] media outlet. I will try and do the best for me and this club regardless of the price tag.
“I want to achieve everything possible, but you have to be realistic.
“I think, the way this club is moving, I think we can definitely try and challenge for the title as we have done in the last few years. We’ll try our best to do that.
“It’s a huge club with an amazing fan base. I think they deserve titles and trophies. Obviously, I can’t guarantee that – but I will say that I will give everything to try and achieve that.”
