USMNT will have another Bundesliga starlet at their disposal for their upcoming friendlies.

Bayern Munich youngster Malik Tillman has decided to play for the United States men’s national team.

The Nuremberg-born forward has played for Germany’s youth national teams. However, he has now decided to switch allegiances to the United States ahead of the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

“We regret Malik’s decision, and it surprised us very much,” Germany’s U21 national team manager Antonio Di Salvo told Kicker“We were in intensive exchanges, as far as his perspectives up to the senior national team are concerned.”

The news comes after USMNT received a squad blow after Gabriel Slonina decided to join the Poland national team. The Illinois-born goalkeeper had played for United States’ youth sides but switched allegiances ahead of the next international break in June.

USMNT will prepare for the Qatar World Cup by playing a host of friendly games. The Stars and Stripes will take on Morocco on June 2 before facing Uruguay three days later.

The team will then shift their focus toward the CONCACAF Nations League, where they will host Grenada in their first game.

The tournament could be a huge opportunity for Tillman and other USMNT youngsters to earn call-ups for the World Cup.
