Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jerome Boateng is set to undergo a rehabilitation program for a muscle strain in his right thigh.

Though his team ended up winning the match, the Champions League final proved to be a disappointing night for Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.

As he rushed back in an attempt to stop a Paris Saint-Germain counter, the 31-year old center-back suddenly dropped to the ground.

He received some on-field treatment before limping off the pitch and being replaced by Niklas Sule at the 25-minute mark.

The Germany international also suffered a similar fate in his side’s 3-0 win over Olympique Lyon in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

It was not immediately clear as to where exactly Boateng had hurt himself on Sunday night, but Bayern recently provided clarification.

A statement on the medical report released on the official club website on Monday read: “An examination by club doctors Prof. Dr. Peter Ueblacker and Dr. Jochen Hahne has revealed that Jerome Boateng picked up a muscle strain in the back of his right thigh during the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

“The center-back will complete a rehabilitation programme prepared by the club’s medical department during his holiday.”
