The Man City loanee has struggled to secure his place in Bayern’s backline in recent weeks.

Julian Nagelsmann has hailed Joao Cancelo’s “reaction” to his limited game time at Bayern Munich.

A shock winter transfer saw the Man City star join Bayern on a loan deal. He went on to make a strong start to his spell at Bayern but his game time has decreased significantly in recent weeks.

Cancelo’s situation intensified speculations over his possible return to Man City at the end of the season. However, the Portugal international’s immediate impact against PSG has convinced Nagelsmann to start him in Bayern’s next league game.

“He will get the chance to start tomorrow,” the German boss confirmed on Friday. “When he plays it’s fine, when he doesn’t play, it’s not.

“That’s normal. He’s always had a good reaction. He had one training session recently where he didn’t made a good impression.

“I had a similar case in Leipzig with Angelino. One training session wasn’t that good, but afterwards we had a very good conversation.

“I explained my point of view to him, and how to deal with the situation. You can also develop opportunities from that, it was a very open conversation, and not just about football.

“Since then he has trained very well and also showed joy and easiness in his game.

“I will reward him tomorrow with a start because of his last impressions in training. I’m sure the good things that he has shown in training will also show in the game.”

Cancelo replaced Muller in the 86th minute of Bayern’s 2-0 win over PSG. Only three minutes later, the PSG loanee provided a brilliant assist for Serge Gnabry’s late goal.

Let’s see if he can build on his display when the Bavarians take on Augsburg on Saturday.
