The Senegalese star has stayed out of Bayern’s squad for the past three months with injury.

Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed Sadio Mane will return to team training on Sunday.

The Senegal international did not participate in his country’s last 16 games at the World Cup. He also missed Bayern’s first leg game against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Despite being initially ruled out for the season, Mane’s recovery has progressed well. Nagelsmann has suggested the forward could return to the matchday squad after only a week of full training.

“He doesn’t have any problems anymore, and his rehab gave him a regular workload,” Nagelsmann said. “Theoretically, he could play again after being back in team training for a week.”

The news of Mane’s return will be a significant boost for the Bundesliga champions as they aim to extend their lead in Bundesliga. However, Nagelsmann will be without Kingsley Coman, who complained of a calf issue after scoring the only goal against his former club, PSG.

Bayern’s head coach was keen to emphasize the importance of maintaining a balance between a good starting lineup and strong substitutes.

“You need a good first XI that suits the opponent, but you also need good players that you can add to the mix,” Nagelsmann said.

Bayern will face Yann Sommer’s former team in the Monchengladbach game. Sommer moved to Bayern Munich in January as a temporary replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer.

“He’s a really important part of the team,” Nagelsmann said of Sommer. “It will be a special game for him, against his former club. They will say farewell to him ahead of this game, and it will be a special moment.”

Bayern will take on Union Berlin after their match against Gladbach. The Bavarians hope to have Mane back in their squad by the time they face Stuttgart on March 4.
