Reports over the weekend had linked the Bundesliga champions with the Barcelona star.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has denied claims the Bavarians are interested in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The 24-year-old Dutchman scored his second goal of the season on Sunday to steer Barcelona to a 1-0 victory at Alaves, but doubts over his future still persisted over the weekend.

A report from Marca on the same day alleged that Bayern had approached De Jong’s agent about a move to Germany.

But Hainer has denied this, suggesting that Bayern don’t see any need to recruit before the January transfer window closes.

“We have a very, very strong team and I don’t see any reason why we should do something in the winter”, the club’s president told Sky Deutschland.

Xavi has backed De Jong to come good

De Jong has managed 11 goals and 14 assists in 119 games for Barcelona since his €85 million arrival from Ajax in 2019.

His inconsistent form this season, along with the club’s financial troubles, have prompted doubts over his future at Camp Nou. However, Xavi hopes he can raise his game in the near future.

“He has to be an important player, and he will be. He just came back from calf problems,” the manager said at the weekend.

De Jong and Barcelona return to action on February 6 for a La Liga clash with top-four rivals Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou.
