The Bayern goalkeeper has broken his leg ahead of the second half of the season.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has admitted he was “shocked” by the news of Manuel Neuer’s broken leg.

Following a disappointing World Cup campaign with Germany, Neuer’s horrible December continued with a serious leg injury.

The Bayern keeper fractured his lower right leg while skiing and underwent surgery on Saturday. He won’t be able to play again for the Bavarians until the next season.

“The news of Manuel’s injury shocked us all,” Kahn said. “We will stand by him and accompany him on his way to his comeback.

“He will also overcome this serious injury and return to the pitch as strong as before.”

Who will replace Neuer?

Sven Ulreich covered for Neuer’s absence after his shoulder injury earlier this season.

His performances saw the Bavarians win eight consecutive games and return to Bundesliga‘s top spot. However, the season-ending injury might convince Bayern to look for a more reliable option.

Alexander Nubel is spending the second year of his loan deal at Monaco, enjoying great form in Ligue 1. However, Bayern will have to reach an agreement with the French side to release him from the loan deal.
